I went through the FAQ and used the search to find an answer, but I wasn`t lucky. Please forgive me if I missed the answer. When I launch my games on PSX, it says «No bios found, add one to make it work better» or something. The question I ask myself is: does anyone know how to peel the BIOS off my PSX and add it to the emulator? If I can`t remove the BIOS from my PSX, is it acceptable (as in the legal) for me to get one on the net? If you own the machine and do the dump yourself, then it`s legal. There is an exception in the DMCA for this particular use. You`re right in the strict legal sense, but I`m not a stupid drone that goes through life and sticks to all the written rules without applying a little logic to the situation. I don`t worry too much about the rights Sony thinks I should have. As far as I`m concerned, they violated my fair use rights when they decided I couldn`t back up the software I had paid a lot of money for. No. They are 100% legal. What is not legal is the distribution of BIOS code, which is protected by copyright, but if you have a PlayStation console that you want to emulate, you can copy that console`s BIOS. Wow, it`s easier to Google the name of the image in this bios and download it.
What`s the difference when you do this compared to the complicated and expensive process you end up describing anyway? You own the BIOS and therefore the rights to empty it, but not the hardware, so you get it another way. Justification at the end? Emulation itself is not illegal, but it is in the «grey» area. Downloading/distributing copyrighted material from the web, whether you own it or not, is always illegal. The only «legal» way to do this is if you have to deposit your bios yourself from a console you own and use original games you own or saves of games you created yourself. Just Google «PSX Bios Download» or «scph1001.bin» or similar. As long as you are a decent person with internet knowledge who can tell the difference between ads and actual downloads, everything will be fine. No police will knock on your door, and I`ve never heard of anyone who received a copyright notice from their ISP for downloading the BIOS. (This is especially a danger if you download newer movies/TV shows) The question I ask myself is: does anyone know how to peel the BIOS off my PSX and add it to the emulator? I thought so…….. But for an emulator to work, you need the BIOS. I don`t know how legal it is. Almost sure it`s legal.
But most people can only find a copy of the bios on the internet. (How, 99% seems like a pretty safe estimate) To be honest, I doubt Sony will come after you to download a PS1 bios. If you did it for the PS3, then yes, but they won`t deviate from the path for the PS1. No matter what you do, it is illegal to download a BIOS for each system or even have one on your hard drive. It`s only legal to make copies of things for backup purposes, and you don`t back up the BIOS because you don`t have a reasonable justification for doing so. Yes? so I can flush the BIOS of my PSX or PS2 to use it for? I didn`t know if it was legal. OP: Briefly: Is it legal for me to take my PSX`s BIOS for use in an emulator, if so, how else can I do it. Remove this thread. Anyway, when I discuss the legality of emulation, as far as I know, the emulation part itself is 100% perfectly legal, HOWEVER, it is NOT illegal to distribute or download the BIOS, which may be required for the emulator to work. Downloading and using emulators is legal, but sharing copyrighted ROMs online is illegal. There is no legal precedent for ripping and downloading ROMs for games you own, although a fair dealing argument can be made.
www.ngemu.com/threads/psx-bios-dumping-guide.93161/ No one will know if you download it or not, go to driverguide.com and search for SCPH1001, they have the Playstation bios several times on their date, after the download date it has been there since the year 2000. I own a Yaroze development system for PSX games, and I was wondering, is it legal to have a PSX emulator to play the games I worked on with the Yaroze a few years ago? The Yaroze is currently dead, and I`d like to play with them at least a little bit to see where I am in high school in terms of game development. If emulation was illegal, forums/websites like ngemu and emulators like PCSX2, epsxe, pSX and others would have been shut down a long time ago. Sony itself tried to stop Bleem! in court, but failed miserably. The only way to bleem! ended because Sony kept trying to sue, lost and eventually Bleem! Due to the lawsuits, which Sony never won, it ran out of funds to continue the project. Read this: Yes, downloading the BIOS is illegal. You should do a bio dump from your own PS2, but if you already own the PS2. I don`t think it`s too illegal to download it (probably in the gray area). It`s all over Google if you search for it. Install PS1 Emulator The first thing you need to do if you want to play PS1 games on your Android is to download PS1 Emulator. There are a few PS1 emulators on the Play Store, but the best one is an ePSXe emulator in my opinion.
The ePSXe emulator is very stable and runs games without lag or stuttering. www.law.northwestern.edu/journals/n…n2/3/Conley.pdf This emulator is accurate, but at a price – you can`t get a lot of fancy video effects or better resolutions. That`s why I stick to ePSXe, but to each one his own. Does anyone know anything about the Yaroze? First of all, it`s region-free, so I can actually play contraband games on it.
